Capitol Briefs: First Weeks of Session

With the Kentucky General Assembly returning to Frankfort for its 60-day regular session, we are back with our Capitol Briefs report. The purpose of these reports is to keep you informed about the issues impacting your business at a state level. Over the course of this year's session, we will be providing you information on bills we are tracking and advocating for that are of critical importance to dealers.

As you have heard us talk about already, modernizing the titling and registration process is at the forefront of our agenda. We've been working over the past year as part of a large coalition interested in modernizing the Clerk's offices in Kentucky. We are presenting a new bill in front of the General Assembly that would make this process remarkably seamless and eliminate the challenges you have faced in the past, and we are cautiously optimistic we will be able to push this legislation forward.

This bill has officially dropped and is termed the Clerk’s Modernization Bill; House Bill 284 and Senate Bill 86. It will be carried in the House by Representative Michael Meredith, who is one of the Chairs of the Modernization Task Force. In the Senate, it will be carried by Senator Jason Howell, also one of the Chairs of the Modernization Task Force.

As things progress with this bill and others that we are monitoring, we will keep you informed and up-to-speed.
